About Label Scanner
Beta. Last updated November 2026.
What it does
You take a photo of a food product's ingredient list. The scanner reads it, matches each ingredient against a database of 725 food additives and common ingredients, and gives each one a risk score from 0 to 10 based on published regulatory and scientific sources. The product verdict follows its worst ingredient.
Not medical advice
Ratings summarise public sources such as EU food law, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the US FDA. They are general information, not medical or dietary advice. A product that is legal where you live can still be flagged here, because rules differ between countries.
The text reading can make mistakes. Always check the product's own label, especially for allergies, and ask a doctor or dietitian about your own health. "Check halal certificate" is a prompt to check, not a religious ruling.
Privacy
- To read a label, the photo is sent securely to Cloudflare Workers AI, read in memory, and deleted straight away. It is never stored, saved or used for training. If that service is unavailable, the photo is read on your phone instead.
- Only the ingredient text is kept, on your own device, in your recent scans.
- Your recent scans and filters are saved only in your browser on this device. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
- We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not track you across websites.
- If you report a problem, it opens your own email app; we only see what you choose to send.
Sources and credits
- Additive names, synonyms and EFSA evaluation data: Open Food Facts, used under the Open Database License (ODbL). Our derived additive database is shared under the same license.
- Ratings and reasons: EU Regulations 1333/2008, 1169/2011 and 2022/63; EFSA re-evaluations; WHO, IARC and JECFA statements; US FDA decisions. Each flagged ingredient links to its source in the app.
